People ask "Why EMG?" The answer is quite simple. Versatility. In my humble opinion (and everybody has one) they simply offer more than other pickup manufacturers.

You can go back and forth for days on the pros and cons of just about anything, including pickups. Only EMG offers a full line of both active and passive pickups. Old school luthiers cringe at the thought of using anything other than passive pickups, unless they are installing a piezo system requiring a pre-amp.

There are a lot of great pickups out there to choose from. Here we use EMG as our standard equipment. Only EMG offers such a wide variety of not only the pickups themselves, but also control systems as well.

Whether you want straight tone and volume controls, or presence, spatial expansion, boost, coil splitting, or a combination of these features, you can do all these with the EMG active systems. In addition, there are many other benefits from the EMG active systems. Headroom is increased, as is clarity. These pickups are silent as far as A/C hum is concerned. No need to worry about ground loops, spurious, or that annoying hum! Additionally, as these pickups are pre-amped, they require less magnetic pull to generate their signal. This means less string damping from the magnets which translates into more string dynamics.

All personal preferences aside, the laws of physics apply to all pickups, and as such, the trick is to minimize the negatives while capitalizing on the positives. EMG does this very well. If you look at some of the top level pros using EMG, they do so for a reason...THEY WORK!!
